Hello God, it's me, Mara

Thanksgiving

You know, Lord, quite some years ago, Ruth Townsend wrote a poem about the Colors Of Thanksgiving:

“Thanksgiving comes in shades of brown And Pilgrim black and white. A touch of red for falling leaves, A sliver moon at night. Rich yellow corn heaped high in bins, Wheat that is golden, too. Beets, onions, carrots tucked away, in every size and hue. An azure sky that’s background for A pumpkin-orange sun. Some trees with needles ever-green, Gray bunnies on the run. God is the artist; nature paints the colors that we love. Our hearts give thanks for beauty here, Send down from heaven above!”

Thanksgiving Day is a day of joy and praise. Our hearts sing with joy as we gather with family and friends on this Thanksgiving Day. That joy shows on our faces and around our eyes!  Joy has spirit-lifting power of our inner song of thanks. It’s Thanksgiving! We rejoice in all: all that is, all that has been, all that will be — we rejoice and some may sing their song out loud.

If we’re alone today, we can make it a day of inner worship with an inner song.  We remember that gratitude is our heart’s memory. We know that You are with us Lord, we only need look around to see all the blessings You have given us. November soon draws to a close but, hey, we DO notice a colder day, the fallen leaves, the barren trees, and like in the poem above, we might even notice gray bunnies on the run.

We know that You, Lord, direct Your love to us as we read Psalm 42:8: “By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.”

Thank you, Lord for directing Your love toward us through family, friends and daily provisions. Thank you.

Love, Mara
