Havre High swims in Great Falls

The Havre High swim teams kicked off the 2016 season with an exciting showing at last weekend’s Havre Invitational. Now, the Blue Ponies will swim away from home for the first time this winter.

Today and Saturday, Havre will be in Great Falls for a pair of meets, as the Great Falls High Bison and CMR Rustlers host a weekend of the Great Falls Invitational.

And the competition will be good for the Blue Ponies, who will see teams like Class A rival Hardin today, as well as a host of Class AA squads Saturday.

This weekend’s events will also give the Ponies a chance to see how much progress they can make in a week. Havre put some outstanding times out there at last Saturday’s Havre Invitational, with veterans like Amelia Miller and Ally Padgett leading the Pony girls, as well as Shandon Oberquell, Ethan and Ammon Lines and others putting on a good showing for the HHS boys.

“The bar is set high and we just need to keep jumping over it,” HHS head coach Bill Kilgore said after the Havre Invite.

Of course, this weekend will be the last time the Ponies get to jump over that bar before Christmas break. The Ponies won’t compete again until the Class A Invite Jan. 7 in Hardin. Havre will also travel to another meet in Great Falls, as well as the Missoula Invitational, before hosting another meet of its own Jan. 28.

Today’s action in Great Falls beings at 4:30, while Saturday’s meet starts at noon. All the action takes place at the Great Falls High Pool in the Swarthout Fieldhouse.
