Coding instructors coming to Havre

The founder of the Big Sky Code Academy, which puts on boot camps that teach web development and code writing, will be hosting an information session Monday at Triple Dog Brewing Co. starting at 6 p.m.

Founder Devin Holmes said the Code Academy trains people to write code and build websites in order to provide local employers with the talent they need in today’s high-tech world.

“I want the Montana tech sector to grow,” he said.

Triangle Communications representatives are scheduled to be at the meeting to talk about the company and what jobs are available for programmers.

On its website, the Code Academy says the curriculum teaches people to work with Javascript, Node, Git, software development methodologies, HTML, CSS and databases.

If enough people sign up  — Holmes said five is the minimum amount of people needed for the academy to host a boot camp — Triangle has expressed interest in lending their facilities to host courses.

For those who would like to go through the boot camps, there are full- and part-time options. The full-time option consists of Monday through Friday classes for three months, whereas the part-time classes consist of two-hour classes Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for five months. The price for the full-time tuition is $7,500 and for the part-time it is $5,500

Holmes is a Montana Ambassador, holds a Master of Business Administration from London Business School and Columbia Business School, and a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He said he has started the Code Academy to meet Montana employers’ needs for programmers.
