Ice Hawks scorch the net, and the Generals

Havre gets first two wins with great performances in the Ice Dome

Sometimes, playing on home ice is enough to heat up an offense. And that's exactly what happened to the Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team this weekend.

The Ice Hawks exploded for 18 goals in their two games against the Miles City Generals over the weekend at the Havre Ice Dome, also giving the Ice Hawks their first two wins of the season.

On Saturday afternoon, the Hawks skated past the Generals 6-2 in a game where the Ice Hawks peppered Miles City goalie Nick Thompson with 62 shots on goal. Donovan McLain scored first for the Ice Hawks on an assist by Cole Hanson, while Hanson turned right around and found the net on an assist by Bryce Denton. Nic Stump tacked on a third goal in the first period on an assist from McLain and Stump scored again in the second on a pass from Noah Kirsch.

Havre's offense kept on rolling with two more goals in the third period, one by Bay Merker on an assist from Jeffrey Ralph and Clifford Lenhardt capped the scoring with an unassisted goal.

Between the pipes, Havre's Kinzee Peterson faced just 10 shots, and shut out the Generals in the final two periods of play as Havre won for the first time all season.

But one win wasn't it for Havre over the weekend. On Sunday, the Ice Hawks and Generals met again, and Havre poured in 12 goals in a 12-2 victory. Peterson was again stout in the net for Havre, along with a strong Ice Hawk's defense.

Meanwhile, Havre hit its stride offensively. Hanson and Ralph got things started with unassisted goals, while Stump put in the first of an incredible four goals on the day. Hanson also finished the game with a hat trick for the Ice Hawks, while Lenhardt scored twice as did Ralph. Kyle Kirkpatrick also found the back of the net for the Ice hawks while Merker, Ralph, McLain, Hanson, Kirkpatrick, August Eacker and Trent Shettel all had assists in the dominating offensive performance.

Now with two wins in the books, Havre will turn right around and head to Miles City for two games, this Saturday and Sunday.
