North Star sends speakers to state tournament in Havre

The speech and drama team from North Star High School in Rudyard saw great success at the divisional tournament in Bigfork Saturday for the Class BC Northen Division, with four speakers for the Knights headed off to state this weekend in Havre.

The top six competitors in each event at divisionals qualify to compete in the Class BC state tournament.

Making it to state for North Star were Aubrey Welch, who took fifth in spontaneous oral interpretation of literature; Sammi Watson, who took third in spontaneous interp; Hayden Massar, who placed third in humorous oral interoperation of literature, and Janae West, who earned a fourth-place finish in pantomime.

Also placing for North Star were impromptu speakers Caden Richey, who took ninth, and Daniel Nerat, who placed eighth. Topanga Watson took eighth in spontaneous interp, and Jewel Wicks took seventh in dramatic oral interpretation of literature.

The team will come to Havre for the state tournament that Chinook High School is hosting at Montana State University-Northern Friday and Saturday. For more information about the tournament, visit the State BC Speech and Drama Facebook page at facebook.com/state2017.
