Ice Hawks split at home

Two games is all that stood between the Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team, and their 2017 state tournament. And the Ice Hawks got a much-needed split in those games.

Havre was inside the Havre Ice Dome Saturday for a pair of games against the Glasgow Ice Dawgs, and while Havre dropped the morning affair, the Ice Hawks stormed back to win the rematch.

In the second outing, Havre peppered the Ice Dawgs with 49 shots in a thrilling 4-3 win. Ethan Roberts netted a hat trick for the Ice Hawks, scoring early on a Jeff Ralph assist. He would add an unassisted goal, and the game-winner on a Trent Shettel assist. Kyle Kirkpatrick netted a key goal as well, on an assist from Nic Stump. Defensively, Kinzee Peterson saved 27 shots for the Ice Hawks.

Havre scored well in the second game, but that wasn't the case in the first. The Ice Hawks got 61 shots on the Glasgow goalie, but, Kirkpatrick was the only one to find the back of the net. He scored on an assist from Cole Hanson. Peterson saved 19-of-21 shots in the 2-1 loss.

Now Havre will prepare to host the State B High School Hockey Tournament this weekend. The action starts Friday and runs through Sunday at the Havre Ice Dome. The Ice Hawks will play the opener at 4:15 p.m. Friday against Glasgow.
