City looks to replace sewer vacuum truck

The city has closed the bidding process  for a new sewer vac combination truck, Havre Public Works Director Dave Peterson said.

He said the city began accepting bids about two or three weeks ago andthat ended Tuesday.

Peterson said the truck is used to clean sewer lines, work on water breaks and dig in areas where larger equipment can’t be used because of the presence of gas lines or fiber optic cables.

The truck will cost about $350,000 and will be paid for with money from the city’s sewer fund, which consists of money generated from sewer and water bills paid by city residents. The city plans to trade its current truck in on the purchase or sell it.

Peterson said the city’s truck, which is about 10 years old, needs to be replaced.

“The cost to do maintenance on it is starting to be expensive,” he said.
