Reminders

You know, Lord, sometimes we need reminders, spiritual reminders, to help us maintain our balance and keep a proper perspective on life. A friend and I were just talking about that at a recent funeral. She said, “Sometimes we truly forget that our ‘life is short!’”

We remembered that our body is just a tent in which we live and will soon be put aside. Facing the death of a friend or loved one, like we just were, reminded us of the brevity of life. Sometimes that is a painful reminder. We further discussed that we are not “sure of even our next five-minutes.” She talked about how years ago her mom reminded her that she should stop to reflect: “We are only here today, gone tomorrow, so while we have ‘time,’ we must plan now for eternity.”

To prepare for our eternal home in heaven, we must ask forgiveness of our sins and accept You, Lord, as our Savior. What could be simpler? We also need reminding that ‘Jesus is Lord,’ that God is still on the throne. No matter how tragic the situation, Jesus is Lord!

We also need to be reminded that the “Word of God Is True.” It is not just a book of religious sayings but was written by men speaking for God through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is most interesting, Lord, that even now scientists are proving that things written in the Bible really did happen.

Some folks believed all along while some think truth is stranger than fiction. Friend, “D.J.” mentioned that she’d recently read that 52 percent of adults in church on any given Sunday morning claim that they are not Christians. Whoa! Oh, Lord, we certainly do need reminders like in Psalm 119:89: “Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven.” Thank You for that reminder, Lord!

Love, Mara
