Early morning fire in Havre burns two garages

The Havre Fire Department dispersed all firefighters on duty this morning to the 400 Block of 10th Avenue to put out a fire that was burning two isolated garage structures.

Fire Chief Mel Paulson, who was on the scene, said the call came in at 6:35 this morning and the department responded with two fire engines and two ambulances.

Paulson called the fire "stubborn" and said it had took about an hour to put out. He estimated the damage anywhere between $5,000 and $7,000, adding the estimate included mostly the contents in the garage.

By 8 a.m., firefighter Kevin Neill was hosing down the last of the embers. The garages, although burnt, were still standing.

What sparked the fire is not yet know.

"It started externally, not sure what started it," Paulson said. "We're still investigating and trying to see what we can do."

No one had been hurt or displaced due to the fire.
