Water restored to Rocky Boy homes

Christine Parker, a rural water billing clerk for Rocky Boy Public Works, said this morning that a loss of water to some homes on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation was resolved last night.

Chippewa Cree Tribal Water Resources Director Dustin White said Monday that 10 homes in the Hay Stack area of Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation lost water Monday morning due to a broken service line.

White said Monday that operators found the broken line at about 10 a.m while inspecting waterlines.

Customers were notified that the mainline water system would be shut down throughout the afternoon.

Homes affected were offered bottled water, White said.

The outage was the latest of many this summer as drought conditions and aged water infrastructure have led to a lack of water service on the reservation.

The tribe put restrictions on outdoor water use in July to cope with water shortages.
