Bulldogs knock out the Lights

The Montana State University-Northern football team was looking for its first win Saturday against the University of Montana Western, but five first-half turnovers doomed any hope the Lights had of getting a win.

Not only did the Lights turn it over five times in the first half, but two of the turnovers, led directly to touchdowns, as of one was returned for a touchdown and another set up Western at the Lights one-yard line. Those turnovers helped turn a 20-0 game into a 41-0 halftime lead for the the Bulldogs, who cruised to a 61-7 victory.

Western took a 41-0 lead into halftime, but to start the third quarter, with quarterback Bryce Missey taking over for Northern starter Tommy Wilson, the Lights finally got on the board. Missey directed 15-play, 84-yard drive that he capped with a one-yard touchdown run.

Yet, Western wouldn't allow the Lights to get any closer as the Bulldogs tacked on two touchdowns and two field goals before the game was over the make the final margin 61-7.

Northern allowed more than 350 yards passing to the Bulldogs, who finished the game with 550 yards of total offense. The Lights, on the other hand, finished with 382 yards.

MSU-N (0-4) will pay a visit to Mayville State in Mayville, North Dakota next Saturday. Western (2-2) is off next week before playing host to Montana Tech Oct. 7.
