Rocky Boy Head Start holds Crunch for a Cause fundraiser

People will have the chance Thursday to help parents fund a ceremony for children transitioning out of Rocky Boy’s Head Start program when they buy food from Taco Johns.

Shana Henry of the 2018 Head Start Transition Class, a group of parents tasked with raising money for the transition ceremony, said a Taco John’s Crunch For a Cause benefit will take place Thursday.

Anyone who makes a purchase at Taco John’s between 5 and 7 p.m. can say they are donating to the Rocky Boy Head Start transition class, and 50 percent of the purchase will go to the group.

Henry, whose son Mason is among the 65 children set to transition out of the program, said each year parents raise money to cover the cost of a ceremony.

The ceremony, which will take place May 26 at Rocky Boy High School, is a way to show pride as the children prepare to start their K-12 education.

“For us, it is a way of showing how proud we are of our youth,” she said.

She said money raised by the group will go toward caps and gowns for the students, gifts to a guest speaker, a professional photographer, a bicycle for each student and local singers to perform an honor song.

Henry said the group would like to raise $5,000 for the ceremony.

The group has so far raised roughly $1,600, Henry said.

She said the group has raised money through the sale of raffle tickets and catering several tribal department.

The group will have a Pizza Hut fundraiser May 10 to raise more money for the ceremony, Henry said.

That Thursday anyone making a purchase at Pizza Hut all day can say they are donating to the Rocky Boy Head Start Transition Class and 20 percent of the purchase price will go the group.
