A Hi-Line native was named this month as March Volunteer of the Month by Stillwater County News in Columbus.

Columbus Fire Rescue volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician Brittany Dyrland was given the honor.

Dyrland grew up in the fire service.

“My dad was a volunteer firefighter/president of the board with the Kremlin Volunteer Fire Department, and I remember talking with him about firefighting and getting to go out on fires growing up with him,” Dyrland said. “I always have had a passion for the medical field and having the opportunity to help others, and I happened to have a friend who was on with Columbus Fire and Rescue that gave me a tour and showed me what CFR was all about.”

The 26-year-old’s favorite part of being a part of CFR is “getting to give back to this wonderful community I now call home,” she said. Dyrland added that, as cliché as it sounds, she loves helping other people and what better way to do that than volunteer as a firefighter.
