Local athletes earn year-end honors

The end of the spring sports season also brings with it another end to the high school year, and, there has been plenty of accolades being handed out to local athletes recently.

Thursday night, Havre High held its spring sports awards banquet where the HHS Senior Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards were announced.

Blue Pony wrestler Martin Wilkie was named Havre High Senior Male Athlete of the Year. In February, Wilkie became the third Blue Pony to win four consecutive Class A state championships. He was also a four-time divisional champion and earned a full ride scholarship to NCAA Division I Minnesota.

The Senior Female Athlete of the Year went to Kadyn Acor. A three-year letter winner in volleyball and a four-year letter winner in tennis, Acor was named Central A All-Conference this past fall in volleyball and earned Central A All-Conference honors in doubles for the Blue Pony tennis team in the spring. Acor is headed Miles Community College to play volleyball in the fall.

Last week, the Great Falls Tribune also held its annual Northcentral Montana Sports Awards Banquet in Great Falls, where several more area athletes were honored.

Blue Pony junior basketball standout Kyndall Keller was named the Northcentral Montana Female Athlete of the Year while Wilkie earned Northcentral Montana Wrestler of the Year.

Box Elder junior Joelnell Momberg was named Northcentral Montana Girls Basketball Player of the Year, while Havre senior Tommy Brown was nominated for Boys Tennis Player of the Year.

Bozeman High once again won the Great Falls Tribune All Sports Trophy, while Great Falls Central Catholic was named School of the Year.
