Blue Ponies set to compete at 10th Annual Veterans Memorial Softball Classic

A trio of Havre High softball players will get to play on the diamond at least one more time.

The 10th Annual Veterans Memorial Softball Classic will take place Aug. 4-5 in Belgrade and will feature three Blue Ponies. Jersi Morse, Camille Keeley and Elle Verploegen were all selected to play in the all-star tournament.

The event brings together the best high school softball players in the state while honoring veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There is one team for each branch of the U.S. military, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

Morse played right field for the Ponies this season and had a .460 batting average with 28 runs batted in and two home runs. Keeley, who was Havre's starting catcher, hit .438, led the team in runs batted in with 52 and was the Blue Ponies' leader in home runs with eight. Verploegen was one of Class A's best pitchers. She had 17 wins and six losses on the year, an ERA of 3.5 and struck out 136 hitters she faced, while all three were part of a great HHS team that won the Eastern A championship and finished fifth at state back in May.

The Veterans Softball Classic is Aug. 4-5 in Belgrade.
