Northstars look to stay hot at Glendive Legion Tournament

The Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club has been in a rhythm and it looks to stay in it with the Glendive Legion Tournament in Glendive this weekend. With the postseason soon arriving, the Northstars will look to stay hot against the stiff competition this weekend.

The Northstars will begin the tournament with a game against the Glendive Blue Devils today at 7:30 p.m. The two teams faced off at the beginning of June at the Havre Jamboree, where the Northstars won 14-1.

The Northstars will continue the tournament Saturday at 2 p.m. with a game against the Billings Expos. The Northstars played the Billings Expos AA team earlier this season in April, where the Northstars went 3-0 in their meetings.

The Northstars will continue the tournament Saturday at 5 p.m. when they face Lovell, Wyoming. Of the four teams competing at the tournament, the top three at the end of Saturday will play again Sunday. The No. 2 seed and the No. 3 seed will play each other at 10 a.m. Sunday and the winner of that game will face the No. 1 seed in the championship game at 12:30 p.m.

The Northstars have played well lately going 14-2 in their last 16 games. Their hot streak has improved their overall record to 30-15-1 this season. As the Northstars look to stay hot, they will need to produce at the plate and play reliable defense this weekend.

Conner McKay has had a strong season at the plate as he has a .381 batting average and 25 RBIs for the Northstars. Drake Berreth will look to continue to make an impact at the plate where he has a .377 batting average and 35 RBIs. Ezra Pyle should make an impact as he has a .362 batting average and 30 RBIs this season.

The Northstars will look to rely on their pitching as well this weekend. Terek Shipp has a 2.739 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 46.0 innings pitched this season. Brody Nanini will look for another strong showing on the mound where he has a 5-2 record and 46 strikeouts this summer.

Once this tournament is over, the Northstars will only have a week left of the regular season. After six games next week, the Northstars will begin the postseason with the district tournament in Vauxhall. With little time before the postseason, the Northstars hope to use this tournament to continue improving and be the best team they can be.

The Havre Northstars will begin the Glendive Legion Tournament today at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will last through the weekend.
