MSU-Northern womens basketball looks to improve this winter

While the winter season is still a few months away, the Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball team is gearing up for the 2023-24 campaign. As they prepare, the Skylights have announced their schedule for the winter.

The Skylights’ first game will be an exhibition match against Montana State University in Billings in Winifred Oct. 30. The Skylights will then start the season when they play Northwest University and Corban University in Great Falls Nov. 2 and 3.

The Skylights will head back to Great Falls Nov. 17-18 to play games against Stephens College and Vanguard. The Skylights will then take a long plane trip to Honolulu, Hawaii, to play games against Eastern Oregon University and Chaminade University Nov. 24-25.

The Skylights will hold their home opener at Armory Gymnasium when they host a tournament Dec. 2-3. At the tournament, the Skylights will play Concordia-Alberta and Valley City State University. The Skylights will then host their field trip day at Armory Gymnasium Dec. 7 when they play Augustana-Alberta.

Dec. 19-22, the Skylights will head to Phoenix, Arizona, for a tournament. Over the course of the weekend, the Skylights will face Embry-Riddle, Menlo and William Jessup. The Skylights will return to Havre for games Dec. 28 and Dec. 30. They will play Ambrose University and Lakeland to wrap up 2023.

The Skylights open 2024 Jan. 6 with their first Frontier Confere game of the season when they play Montana Western on the road. The Skylights will then host Montana Tech Jan. 11.

The Skylights continue conference play Jan. 13 when they head on the road to play Rocky Mountain College. The Skylights return to Havre Jan. 18 for a game against the University of Providence. They then head back on the road Jan. 20 to play Carroll College.

On Jan. 25, MSU-N will stay on the road with a game against Montana Tech. The Skylights will then wrap up the month with a home game against Montana Western Jan. 27.

The Skylights will stay at home Feb. 1 with a game against Rocky Mountain College. They will then head down to Great Falls Feb. 3 for a game against the University of Providence. Then Feb. 8 and Feb. 10, the Skylights will play at home against Carroll College and Montana Tech.

On Feb. 15, the Skylights head back to Dillon to once again face Montana Western. On Feb. 17 in their final home game of the season, the Skylights will host Rocky Mountain College. The Skylights will then wrap up the regular season with games Feb. 22 and Feb. 24 with road games against Providence and Carroll College.

Heading into this winter, the MSU-N women’s basketball team will be looking to improve on its performance from last year. They finished last year with an overall record of 8-21 and struggled in the Frontier Conference with a 1-14 mark. The Skylights will also look to play better on the road this winter after going 0-13 away from Armory Gymnasium last season.

The MSU-N women’s basketball team tips off the season Nov. 2 with a game against Northwest University in Great Falls. The Skylights will begin the conference season Jan. 6 with a game against Montana Western in Dillon.
