Former Ice Hawks make next step in hockey careers

A pair of former Havre Ice Hawks have made big strides in their hockey careers as of late.

Austin Boyce, who played for the Ice Hawks high school hockey team this past season, recently competed in the USA Hockey Boys National Player Development Camp. The camp was held in Amherst, New York. Players earn invitation to the national camps through their performance at a series of state- and district-level camps held each season. The camps are designed so players return home afterward with the tools to further develop their skills over the course of the coming season and beyond. Boyce was one of three players from Montana at the camp.

During the 2022-23 high school season, Boyce totaled 17 goals and 18 assists for the Ice Hawks. Boyce will be playing in the Northern Plains District for the 2023-24 season, which is affiliated with the Montana Amateur Hockey Association.

Last week also saw former Havre goalie Tennis Riley sign with Sault College Cougars in Sault St. Marie, Canada.

After leaving Havre as one of the most successful goal tenders in Ice Hawk’s history, Riley suited up for the Cold Lake Aeros, a junior hockey club in Cold Lake, also in Canada. In 17 games, he had an .874 save percentage and stopped all of his shots in one playoff game for the Aeros.
