Havre tracksters poised for big things this season

The Havre High track and field program has been growing every year under head coach Kari Filius. And the Blue Ponies are hoping this spring is the culmination of all that growth as the Ponies are loaded on both teams.

The HHS girls team is led by a talented group of returns in all events, including Clara Haslem, Britton Elliot, Clara Laird and Kyanna Jarvis as seniors. Junior Macee May and sprinter Kaydence Reieter will also be huge point-getters for the Ponies, as will sophomores Macy Brandon and Amaya Jarvis, along with Sierra Parker. Freshman distance runner Ashlyn Ford is also an accomplished distance runner, and expected to have an impact on the Ponies right away.

On the boys side, the Ponies have big numbers and are looking to climb the Eastern A ranks this season. Seniors Brisbin Reiter, Ciaran Courtnage, Jacob Herring, Brayden Kimberling and Trayden Riley, and star distance runner Caleb Tomac will be heavy point-earners for the Ponies, while juniors Tate Nelson, Koby Preputin and Colter Solomon as well as sophomore thrower Tommy Lewis are expected to be key for Havre's divisional and state chances this season.

And that's what the Ponies are gunning for, Eastern A and State A glory on both sides. The Eastern A Divisonal Track Meet will be held in Laurel May 17-18 and the State A Meet is slated for Laurel the following week.

Editor's Note: The Ponies' competition set for Saturday in Cut Bank was canceled due to weather. Ponies will host the Havre Invite April 13 at the Havre Middle School track.
