Ponies looking to hold court at home

They only get one chance, so the Havre High tennis teams are hoping the weather report is wrong.

Despite the bad weather forecast, Havre is set to host the 2024 Havre Invitational Tennis Tournament Friday and Saturday at the Bill Vaughey Memorial Tennis Courts and the courts at Montana State University-Northern.

The Blue Ponies, led by second-year head coach Jeff Miller, are coming off their season-opening meet in Cut Bank two weeks ago, where seniors Carter Spangler, Reid Kato, Jackson Headdress, Mylee Shennum and Chloe Bricker were all very strong on the court.

Now, with another week of preparation, the Ponies are trying to improve as both the entire boys and girls teams will play over the course of the two days.

The Ponies will also get to see some key competition as Glendive and East Helena come to Havre Friday, while Cut Bank and Conrad will join the fold Saturday.

Of course, the weather will be a concern but, if the forecast does allow for the Ponies to play, it will be a welcome sight as Havre only gets to play at home once a year - and the Ponies didn't have a Havre Invite last season.

The 2024 Havre Invitational Tennis Tournament will run Friday and Saturday in Havre, weather permitting.
