Northern Rodeo teams compete at Montana State

The Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams made their spring debut with a three-day trip to the Montana State University Rodeo in Bozeman.

The rodeo, hosted by the Montana State Bobcats, is one of the biggest collegiate rodeos on the circuit each season, and the Lights and Skylights made a big splash.

In the first rodeo, Northern's women finished with 255 points, good enough for third place, while the Lights scored 80 points and finished seventh.

Ethan Frasier took third in Bareback with a 63 in the long round. After the short round he took fourth place with a score of 61. Frasier took third place in average with a score of 124.

Chance Story took fifth in Steer Wrestling with a 5.1 in the long round.

Garrett Cunningham took first in Saddle Bronc in the short go with a score of 76.

Kenda Statham took second in Goat Tying with a time of 6.7 in the long go.

In the long go, Georgia Orahood took fourth place in Goat Tying with a time of 6.9. She went on to take second in Breakaway Roping with a time of 2.5. Orahood had a time of 7.4 in Team Roping taking third place. Georgia took fourth place in the average with a 2.5 in Breakaway Roping and Team Roping with a time of 7.4.

Brittney Cox had a time of 15.17 in Barrel Racing taking sixth place in the short round. Cox scored a 30.1 in average to take sixth place.

Individually, in the second rodeo, Northern's Chance Story took third place in the long go in Steer Wrestling with a time of 4.3. In the short round, Story took second with a time of 5. Story took first in average in Steer Wrestling with a time of 9.3.

Ethan Frasier took fourth place in Bareback in the short round with a score of 52.

Garrett Cunningham took first place after the short round with a score of 68.

Mikenna Schauer took third place in Goat Tying in the long round with a time of 6.5. In the short round, Schauer took fourth place in Goat Tying with a time of 7.4 Schauer tied for second in Goat Tying with an average of 13.9.

Georgia Orahood had a Team Roping time of 8.6 in the long round taking third. Orahood tied for sixth in the average with a time of 8.6.

In the second rodeo in Bozeman, the Lights were fifth with 240 points, while the Skylights were fourth with 155.

In the standings, the Northern men were fifth with 240 points and the Skylights were fourth with 155.

The Northern Rodeo Teams will continue their spring season with this weekend's Miles Community College Rodeo in Miles City.
