Blue Ponies get tough games in Frenchtown

It was another busy weekend for the Havre High softball team as the Blue Ponies traveled to the Bette Pasky Memorial Tournament to take on four fellow Class A stalwarts.

Last Friday saw Havre fall to defending state champion Columbia Falls 11-4 in six innings. Havre quickly bounced back with a 7-4 win over Ronan. Elle Verploegen was spectacular on the mound, striking out 13 hitters, while Jersi Morse hit a homerun, and Rachel Jette and Camille Keeley each had multiple hits.

Weather interrupted Saturday's play in Frenchtown, but the Ponies got in their game against Dillon, with a tough, 8-7 loss.

The game was tied up at two after three innings and then Havre took the lead on Morse's RBI double. The Ponies got an insurance run the next inning as Kamree Oliver scored Jette to make it 4-2. The Ponies wound up taking a 7-2 lead.

The bottom of the fifth inning would be the final inning however, and the Beavers came out swinging, scoring six runs before rain ended the game. Verploegen did strike out 11 more hitters in the close loss.

The Blue Ponies are 8-5 overall. The Ponies will be home to host Lewistown Tuesday with a 5 p.m. start time at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field.
