In a battle between the Havre High golf teams and the famed Old Works Golf Course, in Anaconda, it was Old Works who appeared to come out on top. On Monday afternoon at Old Works in Anaconda, both HHS teams finished in fifth place at the Anaconda Invitational. However, there was a bright spot in HHS’s day as senior Stacey Sheppard shot a 91 on the difficult track, putting her well inside the Top 10 for the tournament. Sheppard finished in a tie for sixth place overall. And Sheppard got some help too as junior Tabitha Beck fired a 96, putting her just outside the Top 10. In the team race, HHS got a 102 from Haley McLain and a 109 for Danika Patterson, giving the Ponies a team score of 398. That was good enough to finish one stroke ahead of Dillon, and it put the Ponies just one stroke behind fourth-place Livingston. Anaconda captured the girls team title with a 383 team total. Polson was second, followed by the Bozeman JV team and the Rangers. Livingston’s Hanna Barney captured medalist honors on the girls' side with a round of 84. Meanwhile, the HHS boys scored a 308 to finish in fifth place. Hamilton shot a 308 to cruise to the boys team title while the Bozeman JV team took second. Anaconda was third followed by Polson. There 14 teams entered in the boys tournament. Individually, HHS got a 85 from junior Myles Mazurkiewicz, his best score of the season. Mazurkiewicz’s solid round put him just outside the Top 10 in a tournament that was captured by Livingston’s Tom Meyer and Stevensville’s Clay Pape. Both players shot rounds of 3-over par 75. Rounding out the scoring for HHS was Brett Normandy’s 85, Dan Pizzini’s 90 and Jeremy Jensen’s 91. HHS will host a JV tournament on Sept. 6 and the Havre High Invitational will take place on Sept. 8.
