Last week the North Star Nights grabbed a couple of very impressive wins as the post season is sneaking up very fast on local volleyball teams. And starting off right where they left off, the Knights were in the winning circle again on Thursday.

 

    This time hosting the Class B Rocky Boy Stars, the Knights earned a 3-0 win in Rudyard. The Knights won by scores of 25-10, 15-16, and 25-13, in very impressive fashion.

    Tylynn Rettig grabbed four aces, four kills and two digs to help lead the Knights, while Lisa Carlon had six assists and Bettie Carlon had six kills. Bettie Carlon also had five assists help lead the way. Leigha Onco tallied five kills to lead the Stars, while Tyann Watson pitched in six assists.

    But the Knights were at it again on Friday, when they took down Dutton-Brady in a narrow, five game victory. North Star won 24-26, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, and 15-0. It was a match that could have gone either way, but Lisa Carlon’s 21 kills helped pave the way for a win. Lisa Carlon also had five digs, while Kassidy Hansen had five aces.

     The 10C Chester J/I Hawks grabbed a win on Friday as well, as they defeated Sunburst by scores of 25-20, 25-9, and 25-8.

    Outside the first set, the Hawks cruised by the Refiners with ease. Denerey Haaland had 10 kills, while Jimi Sangwin had eight assists and Katelyn Graff had six aces. Haaland also had eight digs.

    The Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds also faced tough competition on Friday, but suffered a major loss. Fort Benton defeated the Thunderbirds in three games, by scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-15. There were not statistics submitted from this match.

    On Saturday, local tournaments brought a lot more volleyball games to local teams.

    Playing in the Fort Benton Mid-season volleyball tournament, the Chinook Sugarbeeters made a run at the championship, but came up short. In pool play, the Beeters split with Power by scores of 19-25 and 25-13. Chinook also split with Denton by scores of 16-25 and 25-22. Centerville did take down the Beeters 25-15 and 25-6, but Chinook rebounded to sweep Fort Benton by scores of 25-16 and 25-22.

    In tournament play, the Beeters made the championship bracket, but was swept by Geraldine in two games. Geraldine beat the Beeters 25-13 and 25-11.    

    There were not individual statistics reported.

    The Big Sandy Pioneers also made a tournament appearance on Saturday, playing in the Chester. The Pioneers made it all the way to the cahmpionship match, but fell to Belt in a very tight matchup. Belt defeated Big Sandy 2-0, by scores of 26-24 and 25-23.

On the road to the championship match, the Pioneers did well in pool play including a 2-1 win over Augusta 2-1 (25-19, 23-25, 17-15).

Chester didn’t do as well on Saturday, falling to Belt 2-0 in pool play. Belt defeated the Hawks 25-5 and 25-13.
