The weather couldn’t be any better for golf right now, and people are enjoying all area courses in drives so far. With a surge of warm weather and light conditions, it’s excellent for golf and it’s also helping bring courses back to life faster than normal, though the winter wasn’t too hard on grass either.

Beeters win B-C divisional, again

The Sugarbeeters captured the 2012 Northern B-C girls divisional championship this past Saturday at the Bill Vaughey Memorial Tennis Courts in Havre. Chinook scored 47 points and swept the girls singles and doubles championships en route to the divisional title. Fort Benton was second with 32 points and Chester/J-I was third with 28.

On Monday night, Huse announced the signing of 6-5 forward Jesse Vaughn to an NAIA letter of intent. Vaughn is transferring to Northern from Shoreline Community College in Seattle, Wash. He is originally from Spokane, Wash.

United earn a split on their own pitch

Spending the weekend at home, the United played two tough opponents. And hosting Miles City and the Sidney Posse at the Havre High soccer fields on Saturday, the United was able to earn the 1-1 split. United defeated Miles City 4-2, but fell to the much tougher, Posse select team 2-1. The United now sit at 6-4-0 overall and 6-2-0 in the conference, as well as sit as the No. 2 team with 18 points behind Laurel with 21.
Ponies win three in Butte

Friday and Sturday, HHS competed at the LaVerne Combo Invitational in Butte. On Friday the Ponies dropped their first game to Corvallis 8-6, but rebounded to defeat Anaconda 5-4. And on Saturday, the Ponies went 2-0, earning impressive wins over Whitefish and Hamilton. HHS defeated Whitefish 11-5 and Hamilton 8-7. With the three wins and one loss, the Ponies overall record improved to 7-9 overall, while their conference schedule remains at 3-5.

In the final four duals of the regular season, and the last chance to tune up for the upcoming Central A Divisional tennis tournament, the Blue Pony boys and girls teams went a combined 7-1 in dual action at the Lewistown Invitational Saturday afternoon.
North Stars split marathon doubleheader in Great Falls

The North Stars were in Great Falls for a doubleheader with the Great Falls Electrics at Don Olson Field. Havre won the first game 8-6 in a 10-inning thriller, and dropped a close nightcap by a score of 6-5.
Big Sandy's Danreuther sets Big Sky meet record

Danreuther, who’s already qualified for the NCAA Western Regional, won both the 200 and 400-meter sprints on the women’s side for the University of Montana Saturday afternoon. In the 400, Danreuther’s best event, she set a new Big Sky Conference meet record with her winning time of 53,21. The previous record, held by a former Northern Arizona standout, had stood since 1998.

Big matches await Ponies in Lewistown

And the Pony boys and girls tennis teams will get started Saturday when they play their final four duals of the regular season in Lewistown. Havre will dual Livingston, Butte Central, Anaconda and Lewistown on Saturday.
