The Havre Skateboard Association and the Havre Cinemas will present the movie "Dogtown and Z-Boys" on Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. as a fund-raiser for a proposed skate park in Havre.
"Dogtown and Z-Boys" is a documentary that chronicles the overnight impact of the Zephyr Team on skateboarding in the early 1970s. It is narrated by Sean Penn and features classic '70s rock music by artists like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper.
Tickets to the show will be $10 each and will enter each person into a drawing for various prizes. Tickets are available in advance at the Havre Cinemas and Retro Works. Tickets will also be sold at the door the day of the show.
All funds raised will be used to help build a skate park on an undeveloped section of Patterson Park along Ninth Avenue. The initial phase of building is to pour a concrete slab about the size of two tennis courts, and purchase prefabricated modular ramps and rails that will allow for periodic change in the park's layout. Initial cost could be between $80,000 and $100,000.
