Residents of the Havre area now have access to the city's five departments from within the comfort of their own homes, via a new Web site.
Development of a city Web site was an early goal of Havre Mayor Bob Rice, who said the site is still a work in progress.
"It's not fully functional yet," Rice said Friday, projecting that the completed Web page will list scheduled meeting dates and times of the City Council committees, as well as minutes of previous council meetings. That should help keep taxpayers informed about important issues in local government, he said.
Rice is working on posting more comprehensive information, but he said the new site is experiencing some technical difficulties as well.
"There are still some difficulties with accessing the site," Rice said. He added that he hopes to have the problems rectified soon.
The Web site, at www.ci.havre.mt.us, displays agendas for upcoming meetings of the Havre City Council, and names and contact phone numbers of council members.
Each individual department page includes information on the history of the department, office hours and location information. Some sections detail operational divisions within the department.
Department pages also contain brief descriptions of the departments' primary functions and responsibilities, with links to e-mail addresses for each respective department head.
