"Some people bowl because they like to throw things."
As reported last spring, ABC delegates defeated the idea of combining all bowlers into one organization.
Thankfully, the women agreed with the men. It seems as though WIBC wasn't satisfied with the first defeat, they called for a second vote the following day (never heard of doing this before.) Our president, Sylvia Broyles is gung-ho for this to happen and says the women will be broke in a couple years and the men will own it all.
Our dues were not raised this year, but hold onto your hats for what's to come. The Pin Point Awards program will be coming to an end in 2005 and we will be charged for some of our supplies to save them money.
In case I have never explained before, their idea of combining ABC, WIBC, YABA, etc. would all be one organization. They would eliminate state associations along with the locals. There would be districts and - get this - volunteers at the local level to do their work. Local associations would not be allowed to have their own money. Everything would go to this new organization.
My solution: Get rid of five of their six vice presidents and a whole lot of their directors, a lot of their stand around help and leave us alone.
Now for bowling
The first week of the season started without too many major problems except for the heat. I for one am almost looking forward to winter.
Jackpot is scheduled to begin Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. The cost will be $10 per person and you must be 18 years of age.
Rock N Bowl is held Friday nights with a cost of $5. Grade and middle schools bowl from 7 to 9 p.m. and high school and the public from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. This is a drug-, tobacco-, and alcohol-free fun night for everyone.
On Sept. 22 at 7 p.m., a meeting will be held to form a new league. This three or four person league will be handicapped, bowl three lines and begins at 7 p.m. on Mondays.
On Sunday at 7 p.m., the YABA board of directors will meet.
