The regular season for the Hi-Line volleyball season has come to an end. This week the District 2B and District 6C volleyball tournaments will get underway on Thursday.
In District 2B, the Chinook Sugarbeeters wrapped up the regular season with a tough 30-32, 25-15, 25-5, 22-25 15-13 marathon win over the Malta Mustangs on Friday.
The Beeters were led by Shaylan Haugen with 13 kills while Tiffany Cuerth dished out 22 assists and Monica Thackeray picked up 29 digs in the win. Chinook ended its regular season with another five-game marathon, this time picking up a 25-11, 18-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-6 win over Wolf Point. Georgia Barber and Kelsey Crampton combined for 16 kills while Cuerth had 16 assists and Thackeray added 25 digs.
The Sugarbeeters finished the season as the District 2B regular season champion with an 11-1 conference record. The Beeters will travel to Glasgow for Thursday's 2B tourney as the top seed and favorite to win the title. The Harlem Wildcats wrapped up their season with a three-game loss to Glasgow. The Wildcats finished the season with a 2-10 record.
Play also wrapped up in District 6C with the Chester Coyotes and Blue Sky Eagles both finishing with identical 13-1 conference records. Both teams swept Sunburst and J-I to end the season atop the conference. A coin toss will decide who gets the top seed at the 6C tournament, starting on Thursday in Joplin.
Chester got seven kills and six aces from Keyla Wendland in the win over Sunburst, while Shawnee Norick had six kills and five assists against J-I.
The duo of Kaila Warren and Lindsay Anderson led Blue Sky with solid weekends. They combined for 55 kills and 13 aces in the two wins this weekend. Setter Holly Haas dished out 29 assists in the two matches.
Elsewhere, the Box Elder Bears are starting to play their best volleyball of the season. The Bears picked up a big 25-14, 15-25, 25-21, 25-17 win over Big Sandy on Friday. Box Elder got nine kills and seven aces from Codi Rainingbird in the win. Big Sandy got a solid effort from Shalayna Pearson with 10 kills, 11 digs and four blocks in the loss.
The Bears added another big win with a 23-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-17, 15-10 win over KG on Saturday. Rainingbird had 12 kills and Connie Menard had 17 assists in the win for Box Elder. Cady Arifin had 15 kills, nine digs and six aces in the win while Janine Jorgenson and Heidi Donoven combined for 65 assists.
KG suffered a tough loss to Rocky Boy on Friday. The Stars grabbed a 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 win in Rocky Boy. Charmayne Four Colors had 14 kills, six aces and three blocks to lead the Stars. KG got five kills and nine digs from Arifin, and 17 assists and three aces from Donoven in the loss.
