JOPLIN - Pearl Orlanda (Eggen) Moore, 84, died on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at a Chester nursing home.
Pearl was cremated per her request. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Joplin. Burial of ashes will follow at the Joplin Cemetery.
Pearl was born on March 9, 1919, on the family homestead south of Inverness to Harold and Nelsina (Otterness) Eggen. Pearl received her education at Inverness and graduated from Inverness High School in 1937.
She married Max Simon Moore in Havre on Dec. 19, 1939. In their early married years, they lived near Max's family in Nebraska, Idaho, and California. They finally settled in Montana, where they farmed at Joplin. In 1961 they purchased a farm at Eastend, Saskatchewan. Pearl enjoyed her life as a farm wife, homemaker, and mother of three children.
The Moore's retired in 1977. They enjoyed winters in Florida and Oregon. In 2002, they moved to the Horizon Lodge in Conrad. Pearl was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. She was admitted to the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester for extended care in November.
Pearl was a lifelong member of the Joplin Bethel Lutheran Church, where she had been active in church circles. She was a past member of the Joplin Eastern Star and had served as a Cub Scout den mother.
Pearl enjoyed music over the years and learned to play several instruments; her favorites were the clarinet and organ. Her sporting activities included golfing and bowling. During her quiet time at home, Pearl liked to sew and paint. She loved to play cards, especially bridge. She also enjoyed traveling.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clifton Eggen in 1995, and Adolph Eggen, who resided with Pearl at the nursing home until his death on Jan. 24, 2004).
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Max Moore of Joplin; children, Donald (Yvonne) Moore of Eastend, Saskatchewan, Kay (Sheridan) Becker of Billings and Douglas (Bonnie) Moore of Joplin; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mayetta Olson of Havre and Violet Brandt of Kennewick, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
