Just when it looked like rain would ruin the entire week, the Havre High golf team managed to get in its first competition of the season in the shortened Great Falls Invitational.
After a cold downpour knocked out Monday's round at Gannon Ranch, play was resumed on Tuesday at Eagle Falls Golf Course.
The Ponies started their season with a solid start against some very tough Class AA and Class A competition. The boys squad fired a 348 to finish 15th out of 18 teams, while the girls finished 12th out of 15 teams. Class A powerhouse Whitefish swept both team titles.
Individually, the Pony boys were led by Brandon Job, who fired an 85. Anthony Wirtzberger was a stroke behind at 86, while Sean Strand and Ben Erickson both broke 90, scoring an 88 and 89 respectively. Matt Hedstrom carded a 93.
For the girls, sophomore Ali Ward was the top finisher on the team with a 109. Brittany Job carded a 112 and Cathy Beecher came in with a 123. Freshmen Stacey Sheppard and Hailey McLain fired a 131 and 143 respectively.
The Ponies return to action on Friday when they travel to Lewistown.
