If the other teams in Class A swimming thought maybe they had a chance of knocking off the Havre High swim team this season, better think again.
The Ponies dominated the Class A swim meet in Hardin, sweeping the team titles in dominant fashion.
The five-time defending champion Pony girls looked dominant as usual, scoring a whopping 245 teams points, almost doubling runner-up Hardin, which scored 126.
The Ponies swept the relays with the team of Megan Rienke, Jessica Obrecht, Morgan Zimmer and Rachel Hansen posting a solid time of 2:09.92 in the 200 medley relay. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Rienke, Zimmer, Hansen and Kyra Kaercher combined to take home first-place honors with a time of 1:58.71. Havre made it a clean sweep of the relays as Laura Lovo, Kristin Evanson, Kaercher, and Chloe Kinna teamed up to take first with a time of 4:45.98.
Individually, Havre won all but one event. Kaercher captured the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:25.52 - 10 seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Mary-Beth Blankenship edged out teammate Evanson in the 200 individual medley with a 2:51.38. Blankenship also captured the 100 backstroke.
Hansen dominated the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.10, while Zimmer won the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle with times of 1:16.01 and 6:12.01, respectively.
Obrecht won the final individual event of the day, taking home the 100 backstroke, edging teammate Rienke by less than a second.
The Pony boys weren't quite as dominant as the girls, but equally victorious. Havre scored 206 team points with Billings Central second with 154.
Havre won the title the tough way, using its superior depth to amass several second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-place performances.
The Ponies captured just two events as Sam Simpson won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:15.07. Scott Vigliotti was the other individual winner, taking the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:27.35. Simpson also added a second in the 50 freestyle.
D.J. Stuker had a strong showing, finishing second in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. Also placing second in individual events were Jordan Croft (100 butterfly), Marcus Inman (500 freestyle) and Bryden Vukasin (100 breaststroke).
In the relays, the team of Stuker, Vukasin, Simpson and Croft finished second in the 200 medley relay. In the 200 freestyle relay, Simpson, Stuker, Croft and Jordan Magelssen finished second, while Magelssen, Kevin Friede, Levi Filler and Ryan Kinholt also teamed to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Ponies will return to action this weekend when they travel to Helena.
