Three seats on the Havre school board are up for election this May, while the possibility of a new mill levy is on hold.
School board members decided last week to allow for the option of a special mill levy election after the May 3 school board election, when more information is available from the Legislature.
The Legislature is working on a response to a Supreme Court ruling last year that the state's education funding system is unconstitutional. That will not be finalized in time to get a mill levy on the ballot by April 13 for the May election, Superintendent Kirk Miller said.
To be considered a candidate for the school board election, a person must pick up a petition from the Robins School administration building and return it, with 20 signatures, by March 24.
The seats held by board chair Denise Thompson and members Teresa Miller and Joe Marino are up for election this year.
Thompson has already turned in her petition and Marino picked up a petition, Miller said. Teresa Miller could not be reached this morning for comment.
