A teenage girl was found dead Saturday in the charred remnants of a home southeast of Lodge Pole that burned to the ground early Saturday morning, the Blaine County coroner said.

Coroner Marvin Edwards said the cause of death is under investigation. The body of the girl, whose name he didn't know, was transported to Missoula on Sunday for an autopsy.

Edwards said he arrived at the scene at 3 p.m. Saturday, 12 hours after the fire began.

The fire consumed the entire one-story structure. The girl's body was found in her bedroom, which had collapsed into the basement, Edwards said.

"It was a really intense fire," Edwards said today. "Everything was gone."

The FBI, state fire marshal and Bureau of Indian Affairs responded, as well as the Fort Belknap Volunteer Fire Department and Fort Belknap police, he said.

Officials with those agencies could not be reached for comment.
