"HE'S B-A-C-K !"

Welcome back to the new bowling season. To say the season has started off with a bang could be taken two different ways. Most of you know what has taken place and I will not waste anyone's time rehashing it, but the good news follows.

Ken Brubaker is back at Hi-Line Lanes as the mechanic and will also be running the pro shop. If you never knew him before, I'll tell you a very short history.

Ken was the mechanic at Hi-Line Lanes for many years, he knows what he is doing. He is also an excellent ball driller. I need not say more, you will find out for yourselves.

Please, do not expect miracles. The machines have taken a beating, it's going to take time to get them back in shape. But, if anyone can do it, Ken will.

The rumors flew over the summer, as usual, and my telephone has still not stopped ringing. Sorry guys. I just can't answer all of you questions because, I DON'T KNOW!

One thing I do know, and would like to squash right now, is the "foul light" business. Many of you have been told that award scores would not be legal without working foul lights. Somebody better open a rule book and do some reading - page 16, rule 5c. This rule has been around forever and there is no excuse for this ignorance.

We were all saddened to learn of the sudden death of Dewey Sloan. Dewey had endured a lot the last year, but we all thought he was on the road to a good recovery.

Dewey was very involved with bowling and was a league secretary for well over 35 years. He took on a large part in the YABA program and devoted many hours and years to it. He not only helped our youngsters on the lanes but also did all of the paper work involved with keeping the leagues rolling smoothly.

I knew Dewey personally, I knew him through bowling. I'm going to miss him, I'm going to miss his, "Hey Lady."

The dates for Women's City have been set. We will be bowling our tourney next month. The team event is scheduled for Oct. 18, and team, doubles, and singles for the weekend of Oct. 21-22. I will be getting the flyers posted ASAP. Last year's ending averages will be used, if none, at least a nine-game current average.

Chris and I are working on the dates for YABA. Registration is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 15, with leagues starting the next week. Payment will be due at the time of registration unless this is done over the phone. The association has not raised the bowling fee for several years even though the cost of lineage has risen steadily.

We have tried to keep this to the minimum but weekly fees will be going up by 50 cents. Your children should be bringing the information home the week before the registration date. All dates listed here are subject to change, I will try to keep you informed of any changes.

Some birthdays were celebrated before this time. I'll catch you up. Kathy Moran and Liane Jorday hit on the 1st; Marcia Durward and Leah Noel the 5th; Dorrina Ojeda on the 6th; Lynette Harada 7th; Lana Herman the 9th; and Teresa Brown on Tuesday. Linda Warneke gains one the 17th and Nancy Morrell the 19th.

Ann McKnight picked a 5-7 and Linda Gerhart and Ruth Vukasin 5-10s.

Elaine Rosman shot the high game of the new season, a 214, and Lana Herman the series of 559. Jerry Schubert had a 223.

In closing for this week, I would like to give my "WHAM" team a special thanks for Sunday. If all goes well, I will explain next week!
