Havre Mayor Bob Rice, a Republican, has outpaced his Democratic challenger, Havre City Council member Pam Hillery, in campaign fundraising, the latest campaign finance reports show.
Rice raised a total of $9,803 as of Oct. 27. He's spent $3,559, leaving him with a balance of about $6,186 going into the home stretch before Tuesday's election.
Hillery has raised $5,416 and spent $4,475, leaving her with about $940.
She said today she is not worried by the amount of money Rice has left.
“I got the things I intended to buy,” Hillery said. “I'm very comfortable where I'm at. I've raised the money I needed. I have enough left to do the things I want to do.”
In an interview last week, Rice said he didn't know what he would purchase with his remaining funds.
Rice purchased signs and literature from Hill County Printing; radio ads from New Media Broadcasters; materials from Bi-Mart, Fastenal, Barkus Home Center, Master Sports, Bear Paw Lumber in Havre and from Staples, Sam's Club and the Dollar Store in Great Falls; and mugs, hats and other materials from businesses in Michigan, Oregon and Connecticut.
Hillery purchased ads from the Havre Daily News and New Media Broadcasters; printed materials from Griggs Printing and Publishing and Carbon Copy; and candy and supplies from Pennington's, Gary & Leo's Fresh Foods, Office Equipment and Ben Franklin Crafts.
In the race for Havre City Judge, challenger Rozan Kerr raised and spent more than incumbent Joyce Perszyk. Kerr raised about $1,310 and spent about $1,013, leaving her with about $291 for the last week of the campaign. She contributed about $330 of her own money to her campaign and spent it registering for the election.
Perszyk raised $925 and spent about $524, leaving her with about $401. Perszyk has contributed $700 of her own money to her campaign and also has spent about $80 of her own money to purchase candy, signs and paper.
In the Ward 4 Havre City Council race, Democratic incumbent Allen “Woody” Woodwick outpaced Republican challenger Shane Ford. Woodwick has raised about $1,334, including $50 of his own money. He has spent about $1,102, leaving him with about $231. Ford has raised about $704. That included $74 of his own money, which he spent on parade candy at an unspecified business. He has $630 left.
In the Ward 3 City Council race, Republican candidate Bob Kaftan has raised about $925 and spent about $880, leaving him with $45. Kaftan spent about $380 on his own campaign. Democratic candidate Bob Kaul has raised about $879, including $100 of his own money. He's spent about $641, leaving him with about $238.
