Beeters closing in on championship

The Chinook Sugarbeeters are two wins away from a Class C volleyball state championship. On Thursday, the Beeters had little trouble getting through their first two matches at the Class C state volleyball tournament in Bozeman.

In the opening round, the Beeters easily defeated the Circle Wildcats by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-20. The win moved Chinook into Thursday night's quarterfinal match.

Morgan Obie once again paced the Beeters offensively. The senior led the way with nine kills against Circle. Dawn Kellam also aided the Beeters with three service aces.

In the quarterfinals, the Beeters pushed aside Absarokee with little trouble as well. Chinook took the first two games of the match by scores of 25-11 and 25-20. The Rangers came back and took game three, 25-17, before the Beeters ended the match by winning game four, 25-20.

Senior Georgia Barber was key in the Beeter victory, racking up 19 kills. Kassie Dugan led the Beeter defense with a pair of blocks. Crystal Roseberry had 36 assists.

Chinook will now prepare to play in tonight's undefeated semifinal against a familiar foe. The Beeters will meet Great Falls Central at 6 p.m.
