The high school volleyball season isn't quite over just yet. On Sunday, at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse in Havre, some of the top senior volleyball players in the state will gather for the MSU-Northern ABC-All-Star Classic volleyball tournament.
The annual tourney will feature three all-star teams. Class A, B and C will be represented. The Class A team features Havre High head coach Bill Huebsch, who will coach the team along with Whitefish head coach Jackie Fuller and Hardin head coach Laura Sundheim. HHS senior setter Alexa Lipp will play on the Class A team.
Local talent also abounds on the Class C squad. The team is headed by Chinook head coach Doug Hayes. Hayes guided the Sugarbeeters to the Class C state championship last month in Bozeman. The Class C roster will feature Chinook seniors Georgia Barber, Morgan Obie and Crystal Roseberry. Chester/J-I standout Brianne Wolfe will also be part of a very talented Class C squad.
All three rosters feature a wealth of talent. The Class A team is led by middle blocker Tracy Schwada from Whitefish. Schwada (5-10) was named the Class A state tournament's most outstanding player as she helped guide the Bulldogs to their second straight state championship. Hardin middle blocker Cassie Hodges (6-1) is also on the Class A roster and is widely considered one of the top volleyball players in all of Montana.
The Class B team has three outstanding middle blockers, all of who are 6-1. Eureka's Sarah Flannery and Missoula Loyola's Sarah DeGroot headline the Class B team, as well as Glasgow outside hitter Denise Enebo.
Aside from the local talent on the Class C team, the squad also has Great Falls Central standouts Carolyn and Kathleen Geschwill. The 6-0 sisters dominated the Class C ranks this season, guiding the Mustangs to a third-place finish at the Class C state tournament.
The all-star tournament will be a round robin format beginning at noon with the Class C team taking on the Class B squad. At 2 p.m. the Class A team will play the Class C squad, and the tournament will conclude at 4 p.m. when the Class B team battles the Class A stars.
All of the action will take place at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse in Havre.
