A one-vehicle accident early Monday claimed the life of a Hays woman.
Michelle Main Plainfeather, 25, was killed when her 1993 Ford Thunderbird drifted off the road while heading east on Tribal Route 11 about 1:20 a.m., the Montana Highway Patrol said.
A Highway Patrol report said an accident investigation found no signs of corrective steering and that the vehicle continued eastbound in a ditch until it struck an approach and was vaulted into the air. The car was airborne for 75 feet before coming to rest on its wheels facing west.
Plainfeather leaves behind a husband, Nathaniel Plainfeather, and three daughters, aged 5, 3 and 1. Her mother, Glenda Has The Eagle, said today the entire family is still in shock.
Has The Eagle said her daughter worked as a clerk in the personnel department for the Fort Belknap Indian Community. Plainfeather was planning to get her GED and continue her education, she said.
"She wanted to go to college and get herself a good job," Has The Eagle said.
Plainfeather was well-liked and considered family important, she said.
"She had a lot of friends, and she was liked by a lot of people," Has The Eagle said. "She was friendly. She was always happy. Her family meant the most to her."
Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chief Nosey Rec Center at Lodge Pole.
