Travelers boarding the train at the Havre station this week said the Amtrak service is important and should not be cut.
Cassie Foster of Havre said she rides Amtrak four or six times a year. She was heading to Whitefish to visit family.
"It's very convenient," she said. "I can get my homework done while I'm on the train." A cut in services "would be very bad for Havre," she said.
Her mother, Cindy Foster, said she worries about the possibility of Amtrak being eliminated.
"It sure beats traveling on the roads during the winter," she said. "It makes me sick to think we might lose Amtrak. What about the people who can't drive, the seniors? This is vital."
"I think it should be kept," said Doris Gasvoda of Big Sandy. "I'm getting older so I'm going to use it more often."
Rita Munson of Havre was heading to Washington to visit her kids. She rode Amtrak three times last year.
"It's too far for me to drive," she said. "This is right here. I don't have to go to an airport."
