New maps of Hill County could benefit emergency and county road workers, conservation crews and hunters. The county may soon have them.

The Hill County commissioners are preparing to place an order with Cicon and Associates, a Chester-based surveying company, for road maps of the county.

The county's most recent map is 15 years old, Commissioner Doug Kaercher said.

The initial cost to the county for the Cicon maps is about $2,600 to start, plus the cost of printing the large-scale maps and map books.

"The price is right," Commissioner Kathy Bessette said.

The county hopes to return its investment by selling the maps above the printing cost, she said.

Rudy Cicon, who presented samples of possible maps to the commissioners Monday, said Liberty County had managed to regain its initial investment that way.
