More than 115 cowboys and cowgirls roped, rode and wrestled their way to solid showings at last weekend's Havre High School Rodeo.
There were actually two rodeos on the day, with action starting on Saturday morning and running close to midnight. With all those events, there were some outstanding performances.
Havre's Craig Kallenberger brought home the all-around boys title, led by his fifth place in the team roping and seventh-place finish in the calf roping in the first rodeo, and second in the steer wrestling and a sixth in the calf roping in the second rodeo.
Polson's Jessica Milliron won the girls all-around title with ease. Milliron took home the average title in the pole bending, while also placing consistently in the goat tying and breakaway roping.
Other local winners included Rudyard's Whitney Kline, who took home the average title in the barrel racing. Kline won the event in both rodeos with times of 18.12 and 18.09.
Also bringing home an average title in the team roping was Jade Nystrom of Havre and Cody Four Souls of Rocky Boy. The duo finished fourth in the first rodeo and sixth in the second, giving them an average time of 13.31.
Several other local competitors also flourished. Big Sandy's Stacy Weaver and Morgan Darlington each placed in the barrel racing, while Carissa Brown placed in the goat tying. Havre's Tisa Seiler and Kailee Bickford placed in multiple events. Turner's Cheryl Cowan placed in the barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying.
The high school rodeo season is barely halfway through, with rodeos every weekend in upcoming places like Browning, Cut Bank, Valier, Babb, Scobey, Plentywood and Poplar. Competitors earn points throughout the season to qualify for the state rodeo.
The Montana High School Rodeo Association state finals will be held June 22-26.
