Elections will be held across the Hi-Line on Tuesday for school board members and school mill levies.
Havre voters go to the polls from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to elect three new school board members and decide on two mill levies, one for the elementary and one for the high school district.
Incumbents Denise Thompson, Joe Marino and Teresa Miller and challenger Mike Barts are the candidates.
Havre voters will decide whether to approve a tax increase of 4.39 mills, or $65,317 for the elementary district, and 1.9 mills, or $32,837, for the high school district. That comes to $9.63 annually for a $100,000 home in the elementary district, and $4.18 for a $100,000 home in the high school district.
The election will be held at the Havre High School gymnasium.
The consolidated North Star school district will be electing its first school board. Seven candidates are running for five positions. They include JoHanna Kapperud, Charles R. Chvilicek, David W. Miller, Robert Spicher, Michael W. Lipp, Todd Hansen and Terry Hybner. The North Star district was formed when voters in the Blue Sky and KG districts decided to consolidate.
The North Star election will be held from noon to 8 p.m. at Kremlin School, Gildford School, Hingham Community Center and Rudyard School.
In the Davey school district, voters will be asked to approve a 34-mill levy to raise $7,153 and a 33.46-mill levy for a $7,000 building reserve. The election will be held at Davey School from noon until 8 p.m.
The Cottonwood district will ask for two mill levies - 2.5 mills, or $5,000, for operations and maintenance and 4.5 mills for two years to raise $9,600 for the building reserve fund. The election will be held at Cottonwood North School from noon to 8 p.m.
Box Elder Public Schools will not have an election.
The Rocky Boy school district is holding a trustee election. Eight candidates will be vying for two positions: Florencine "Dixie" Stump, Kenneth R. Standing Rock Sr., Stacey R. Small, Matthew "Matt" L. Denny Sr., Jody A. LaMere, Athena L. Galbavy, Joseph LaFromboise Jr., Jeanne (Big Knife) Hobbs and incumbent Russell T. Gopher. The election will be between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Rocky Boy Elementary School gymnasium.
The Chester/J-I consolidated district election will be held at Chester High School between noon and 8 p.m. Nine candidates are competing for five positions. They are Brett Earl, Dena Fritz, William Harmon, Loren Hawks, Craig Henke, Christi Lakey, Dale Pimley, Glenn A. Wolfe and Gregory M. Woods.
Chinook Public Schools will ask for a $32,000 mill levy. Voting will take place at Chinook High Schook, Zurich School, Bear Paw School and Lloyd School from noon to 8 p.m.
The Harlem school district will hold an election for two school board positions. Incumbents Matt McCann and Cheryl L. Morales and challengers Donald L. LongKnife, Gerald J. Stiffarm and Nick Tomaskie Jr. will appear on the ballot. Voting will take place from noon to 8 p.m. in the Harlem High School foyer and in the Fort Belknap Red Whip center.
Hays-Lodge Pole will hold an election for one school board member. Incumbent Robert Fox faces challengers Betty Campbell, John Hawley and Kirby King. Voting will be at Lodge Pole Elementary School and the Hays High School library from noon to 8.
In Big Sandy, two mill levies for the elementary district will be on the ballot.
Turner schools will ask for 20 mills, or $25,020, for the elementary district. Two board positions are open but there is only one candidate, incumbent Donna Barber-Schneider.
