Voters head to the polls today

The polls opened at 7 a.m. today for the Havre city primary election. Voting closes at 8 p.m.

In Ward 1, Democrats Gerry Veis and Dave Brewer face off in the city's only contested primary race. Ward 1 residents can cast their votes at Havre High School. No Republican filed for the Ward 1 seat. Incumbent Dana West is not seeking re-election.

Ward 2 Havre City Council member Terry Schend, a Republican, is running unopposed for re-election. Residents of Ward 2 can vote at Highland Park Early Primary School.

In Ward 3, Bob Kaftan is running unopposed in the Republican primary, and Democrat Bob Kaul also has no opposition in today's primary. They will vie in November for the seat held by Tom Farnham, who is not seeking re-election. South-central Havre residents can cast their votes at the Montana State University-Northern Student Union Building.

Ward 4 Democratic incumbent Allen "Woody" Woodwick is unopposed in today's election, as is Republican Shane Ford. Voters can cast their votes at Lincoln-McKinley Primary School.

In the mayoral race, Republican incumbent Bob Rice and Democrat Pam Hillery are unopposed in the primary.

In the nonpartisan race for Havre city judge, incumbent Joyce Perszyk will face Rozan Kerr in November.
