The Chester/J-I Hi-Line Hawks continue to dominate District 6C play, picking up a pair of wins this past weekend to move to 8-0 in conference play and firmly atop the district standings.
The Hawks picked up a big 25-15, 28-26, 25-17 win over conference contender Valier on Thursday night in Valier.
Chester/J-I was paced with a balanced attack as Jackie Alisch, Keyla Briese, Brianne Wolfe and Hannah Pimley had six kills each. Briese also dished out 14 assists, while Pimley had five aces and Wolfe added five blocks.
Valier was led by all-stater Aisha Snyder, who finished with eight kills, six assists and four blocks.
Things weren't quite as easy for Chester/J-I on Saturday, but the Hawks rebounded from losing their first game of the match and rallied to defeat Big Sandy 18-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 in Big Sandy.
Pimley had a solid match totaling 13 kills, six blocks and four aces. Briese added 13 assists in the win. Big Sandy was led by Shalayna Pearson with 12 kills, four blocks and three aces. Kacy Herron added 21 assists in the loss.
Elsewhere in 6C, the Chinook Sugarbeeters sit squarely behind Chester/J-I in the standings, improving to 7-1 on the season with another conference win. The Beeters had little trouble on Thursday with a dominating 25-7, 25-16, 25-13 win over North Star High School in Chinook.
The Beeters served up 17 aces in the match as Georgia Barber led the team with four. Morgan Obie added eight kills and Crystal Roseberry dished out 23 assists in the win. North Star was led by Jourdon Han with three kills and three aces. Courtney Wendland added six digs in the loss.
North Star rallied from Thursday's loss to defeat Rocky Boy 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21 in a tough match in Rocky Boy. Natasha Dyrland led the Knights with 15 kills and three blocks. Megan Warren handed out 21 assists in the win.
Rocky Boy was led by Loni Belcourt and Rainbow Stump in the match. Belcourt had 11 kills and six blocks, while Stump added 14 assists and eight aces. Courtney St. Pierre had a good match defensively with 17 digs.
North Star also added a 25-8, 25-12, 25-11 win over Hays-Lodge Pole on Saturday. No stats were available from the match.
Rocky Boy's tough schedule continued with a disappointing 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 loss to Valier in Rocky Boy. Snyder proved again why she is one of the top players in the conference, registering 19 kills and three blocks. Maranda Laverdure had 27 assists and Katie Majerus picked up 32 digs for the Panthers.
The Morning Stars got seven aces, five kills and three blocks from Belcourt. Krystal Small had 13 digs and Stump added nine assists.
In Class B, the Harlem Wildcats suffered a pair of tough conference losses on the weekend.
Wolf Point needed four games to defeat Harlem 25-23, 25-12, 20-25, 25-23 Thursday night in Harlem. Danni Zoanni led the Wolves with 12 kills. Harlem got a solid match from Leandra Thomas, who finished with 14 kills, 17 digs, and two aces. Danielle Dirden dished out 19 assists in the loss.
On Saturday, the Poplar Indians roughed up Harlem 25-23, 25-16, 25-14 in Poplar. Thomas once again led the way for the Wildcats with 10 kills and 13 digs. Dirden had 11 assists in the loss.
