WORDEN (AP) - A rail line closed Saturday by the derailment of 43 freight cars near here reopened Sunday, although crews were still cleaning up the piles of soybeans and crumpled railcars left behind.
The train, with 109 cars of soybeans, derailed early Saturday. It originated in East Dubuque, Ill., and was bound for Kalama, Wash., said Gus Melonas, a spokesman for BNSF Railway.
Melonas said most of the derailed cars would have to be scrapped. He estimated that half of the load was spilled.
The cause of the derailment, which tore up several hundred feet of tracks, remained under investigation. No one was hurt.
Crews from Billings and Havre were brought in to help clean up, and trucks hauled away most of the soybeans on Sunday.
Cleanup will likely take three to four weeks to complete, Melonas said.
