For the first time in nearly two decades, Havre High School will hold a true alumni basketball game for both men and women. The games will be played on Dec. 30 at the Havre High gymnasium.

The alumni games will be a fundraiser for the Havre Public Schools Foundation, according to Wells Lamey and Duane Neighbor.

“This is the first time we're doing this in 15 years,” Neighbor said. “It is something we came up with to raise money for the foundation, and we think it will be a good thing for the community.”

The date was set in hopes that the games will attract former HHS basketball players who will be returning to Havre for the holiday season. Anyone who played and graduated from HHS through the 2004-05 school is eligible to play, but space is limited, Neighbor said.

“We're going to have two teams of 13 for each game,” Neighbor said. “So we're taking the first 26 boys and first 26 girls who register and we'll split them up into teams of 13.”

Registration for the alumni game will begin on Friday. Boys can register for the game at Master Sports and girls interested in playing can register at the Athletes Foot. There is a $10 registration fee, and all players will receive a T-shirt.

“We're hoping to have a good turnout,” Neighbor said. “We've already got some interest from people out of state so the spots should fill up pretty fast.”

There will be a $3 admission fee for fans. All of the proceeds from the game will go to the HPS Foundation. The girls game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the boys game will get under way at 8 p.m. at the HHS gymnasium on Dec. 30.
