The Chippewa Cree tribal council will distribute Christmas food baskets to enrolled members in Rocky Boy, Havre and Great Falls on Monday.
Today, the tribe held its annual Christmas dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior citizens center at Rocky Boy. A toys-for-tots giveaway runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the senior citizens center and will continue until all of the toys have been distributed.
Each basket to be given away next week will contain a turkey, ham and all the trimmings for the holidays, according to a news release.
The Christmas baskets will be delivered to the homes of enrolled tribal members living on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. Enrolled members who live in Havre but work in Rocky Boy can pick up their baskets at the old Stone Child College gym from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The council will also distribute 175 baskets to enrolled Chippewa Cree tribal members at the Little Shell Tribal Office in the West Gate Mall in Great Falls. Those baskets will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Everyone must show a valid tribal ID to receive a basket.
The cost of this year's Christmas baskets and their distribution is being covered by members of the tribal council. In the past, the baskets were paid for with contributions from various tribal departments.
