Havre Taxi will cut its hours this week, taking only reserved fares from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Taxi owner Sue Markley said the company will continue 24-hour service on Fridays and Saturdays.
She cited lack of business and an injury that has prevented her from driving since October as the reasons for cutting back on the hours the taxi will run. Markley said she has had to pay another driver to take over the 80 hours of duty she had been performing before she was injured while helping a rider out of the taxi in October.
Markley said people who know they will need a ride during off hours can call ahead and make arrangements for service.
Markley discontinued the Take a Taxi program for area bar patrons at the end of November. She said 17 bars paid $50 each per month so their customers could take a taxi rather than drive when they'd been drinking. She said the program was too expensive for her to continue.
“They had unlimited use of the taxi,” Markley said. “It nearly broke me. Four wanted to continue participating, but I couldn't afford it for four bars.”
Havre Taxi's telephone number is 262-3378.
