The Havre High wrestling team closed out its 2005 schedule with a close dual victory over Central A Conference rival Lewistown late Tuesday night at the Fergus High School gymnasium.
Havre defeated the Eagles 41-37 to remain undefeated in Central A duals this season.
The Ponies dominated the lower weight classes, winning the dual's opening four matches Chris Riccio (105), Ryan Shelstad (112), Myles Mazurkiewicz (119) and Billy Wagner (125) all earned victories by pin to give Havre a commanding lead.
The Eagles battled back in the middle of the dual, picking up five straight wins from 130 pounds to 160 pounds. Havre forfeited the 130-pound match, and the Ponies also picked up a major decision at 135 pounds.
Havre's Curtis Shandford got the Ponies back on track with a quick pin of Lewistown's Curt Perkins at 171 pounds.
Paul Jensen's win by pin over Dale Walker at 215 pounds sealed Lewistown's fate, as the Ponies earned all but five of their points by pin on the night.
Havre High rested several of its key wrestlers, including Evan Hinebauch, Matt Schnittgen and Beau LaSalle. All three wrestlers are undefeated and all of them claimed championships last weekend at the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls.
The Ponies will be back in action on Jan. 3 when they host the highly touted Cut Bank Wolves in dual action at the Havre High gymnasium. The dual with Cut Bank will get under way at 6 p.m.
